Dr. Sara Hartsaw has been practicing General surgery in Gillette since 1990. Over the years, she has seen many advances and innovations in the practice of surgery. Patients recover from surgery quicker and return to work much sooner thanks to the innovations of minimally invasive surgeries. Many of these procedures can be performed at free standing surgery centers such as ASC. Dr. Hartsaw performs a wide variety of surgeries and procedures including breast surgery, gall bladder removal, hernia repair, endoscopy, colonoscopy and skin lesion removal.

Dr. Hartsaw grew up in Cheyenne (Go T-Birds!), did her undergraduate work at Chadron State College (Eagles) and completed Medical School at Creighton University School of Medicine (Bluie Jays). After Medical School, Dr. Hartsaw searched for a training program that would fit her goal of practicing in a small to mid sized city. The Phoenix Integrated Surgical Residency Program in Phoenix, AZ provided exactly the surgical training she needed to come back to Wyoming to practice. She completed residency in 1990. Following residency Dr. Hartsaw joined Medical Hill Surgical Associates in Gillette. In 1994 Dr. Hartsaw opened her own private practice – High Plains Surgical Associates, PC.

In 2014 Dr. Hartsaw became an officer in the United States Navy Reserve. She was deployed to Afghanistan in 2015 as one of three trauma surgeons assigned to the NATO hospital in Kandahar. In 2020 Dr. Hartsaw was deployed to the Javits Center, New York City, as part of the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. Most of her Navy Surgical career stateside has been at Navy Hospitals caring for Marines.

Dr. Hartsaw and her husband have five children and two grandchildren.

Patient Testimonial

I really enjoyed my time at this facility, as much as a person can “enjoy” a surgery! You all did an awesome job keeping me comfortable.
